The Government of Castilla-La Mancha extends its warmest congratulations to the Cuenca Museum on the occasion of its 50th anniversary, and underscores the remarkable milestone of over half a million visitors received over the past 25 years.
The Cuenca Museum was originally established in 1963 under the auspices of the General Directorate of Fine Arts. It was relocated to its present premises in 1974 and officially inaugurated in 1975.
As part of the anniversary celebrations, a tribute was paid to Francisco Suay, the museum’s first secretary-curator. A bust in his honour, donated by Cuenca-based artist Julio Abad, was unveiled during the ceremony.
The Cuenca Museum has served as a significant catalyst for development in both the city of Cuenca and the wider region. It has firmly established itself as a cornerstone of the city’s cultural life.
During the commemorative event, the representative of the regional government emphasized the important educational role played by museums across the region. It was noted that more than 350,000 schoolchildren visited these institutions last year alone, and that 25 temporary exhibitions are scheduled to take place throughout the current year.
